People of all ages are being invited to share the music which has shaped their lives during a special Desert Island Discs event arranged to mark the equinox by the Pear Tree Fund and Kinda Education.
Called ‘Time in our Life’, the celebration will take place at Kaliwood, on Beccles Road in Holton, between 11am and 2pm on Sunday 20 March.
It is the latest event to explore memory, life and death and has been arranged as part of a year-long partnership between the two organisations and the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration East of England. It will give people the chance to take part in a special version of Desert Island Discs and pick the music which reflects their lives, which will then be played by two musicians and on Kaliwood’s very own ‘international space wagon’, which is a converted trike which uses solar power to generate energy.
People will also be able to take part in compassionate conversations about love, life and the end of life before getting creative and sharing their stories by contributing to a ‘This is Your Life’ book using paints, drawings or narrative.
Kevin Vaughan, chief executive of the Pear Tree Fund, said: “This equinox celebration is our latest Compassionate Communities event, and will give people the chance to come together, talk openly about their feelings and share the music which has helped to shape their lives.
“The project complements the work carried out by our charity, which offers a huge amount of support to people who are reaching the end of their lives, their families and carers, as well as those who have been bereaved or experienced loss. We hope that as many people as possible come along on 20 March and enjoy what promises to be an uplifting celebration to mark the beginning of spring.”
Mel Harrison and Rachel Kellett, two of the directors at Kinda Education, said: ”Time in our Life is a year-long talk and walk around the idea of love, life and end of life, creating a ‘This is Your Life’ style book, an act of love to those we leave behind when we die. Coming together within nature supports people of all ages to navigate and celebrate our time on earth together, building a caring and compassionate community.”
